| Vitosha provides the highest ski resort in Bulgaria, with the resort itself being located at 1.800 metres and the highest peak (Cherni Vruh) at 2.290 metres above sea level. The capital of Bulgaria - Sofia - is only 10 km away, which makes Vitosha a popular place not only for tourists but also for locals who want to spend a day skiing. Due to the highth in which the resort is located, skiiers are able to enjoy snow covered slopes for about 150 days per season with an air temperature of approximately -6ºC. The main skiing area of Aleko offers slopes of all grades of difficulty (Vitoshko Lale is the most difficult one). There are a total of six ski runs for both boarders and skiiers available. Chair and drag lifts take you to the top, ski instructors and ski schools are available, ski equipment can be rented and several restaurants offer traditional and international cuisine. Besides the fact that Vitosha is a popular ski resort in the winter time, it is also well visited during the summer months, when people from all over the world are coming to explore the nature and practise outdoor sports like hiking, climbing and others.
