Varna International Airport is 7.5 km from the centre of town and now operates charter and scheduled flights from London during the summer months via Bulgarian Air, and from Vienna via Austrian Airlines. There are also regular domestic flights to Sofia which take less than an hour.
This airport handles very heavy passenger traffic with the boom in the tourist industry in Bulgaria, and is in the process of major improvements to modernize, expand and handle the increasing number of passengers.
