There are several options on how to get to Bulgaria. The fastest is to fly with UK airports including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London (Gatwick, Luton and Stanstead), Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham East Midlands operating charter flights into Sofia, Bourgas and Varna Airports. Charter companies who operate into Bulgaria include My Travel Lite, Thomson, First Choice, Thomas Cook and Avro. Scheduled flights are provided by Aeroflot, Air France, Al Italia, British Airways, KLM. LOT, Lufthansa, Olympic Airines, Swissair and Syrian and Turkish Airlines.
If you are travelling by car then Bulgaria can be entered through one of the many border checkpoints. Foreign driving licenses are valid on Bulgarian territory and insurance is compulsory. You can either arrange this before your journey or on the Bulgarian border. The speed limit is 60 km/h in populated areas, 80 km/h outside populated areas and 120 km/h on motorways. You will find petrol stations are located at every 30 to 50 km.
All the main European railways pass through Bulgaria. International trains link Sofia with numerous European capital cities and the domestic rail network provides access to the large towns.
Entry visas are not required for citizens of the EU and EFTA member states or any othercountries where Bulgaria has a visa-free agreement , or for tourists travelling as part of a package tour. CIS citizens do not require a visa for a stay of one month provided they have a valid passport, a voucher for pre-paid tourist services or if they pay 40 USD for every day they stay in Bulgaria.
