Sliven is one the largest municipalities in Bulgaria spreading over 1366 square metres with 48 towns. Its history dates back to Roman times when it was a centre for trade. It now has a population over over 110,000 and is a popular tourist destination with its mountain fresh air and natural spring water.
Sliven is situated at the foot of the Sinite Kamani (Blue Stones) which is a large rock with mineral springs set in a 7,000 hectare national park full of rare and protected species of plants and animals.
It is just 110 km from Bourgas which is Bulgaria's largest commercial port. There are also railway links here and an international airport.
