Plovdiv is, after Bulgaria's capital Sofia, the second largest city in the country. Therefore you can choose between two universities, two higher institutes and one academy.The Academy for Music and Dance Art for example provides a wide range of modern facilities. It was established in 1964 and has been one of the first higher institutions to obtain full state accreditation. The Higher Institute of Food and Flavour as well as the Higher Medical Institute are also located in the city of Plovdiv. The latter offers Faculties of Dentistry and Medicine and has been founded in 1945. A hospital, a Medical College, laboratories and many other high standard facilities can be found on the university grounds. The Higher Institute of Food and Flavour is the only one of its kind in the country and houses a Technological Faculty, an Engineering Faculty, a Francophonic Centre, a Post-Graduate Studies Centre, a Scientific and Research Sector, a Centre for Computer Technologies and Communications, Administrative, Financial and Accounting Units, a Library, five student hostels and much more. Additional there is also the University of Plovdiv "Paisii Hilendarski" (Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics) and the Agricultural University of Plovdiv available, in which General Agronomy, Economics, Plant Protection and Agroecology, Horticulture with Viticulture and Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture are taught.
