The small town of Kotel has 7270 inhabitants and sits in a picturesque small valley in the eastern part of the Balkans, 527 metres above sea level. It is 328 km east of Sofia and 49km northeast of Sliven.
Kotel is an important cultural and historical centre, and its rich history and over 110 preserved Renaissance houses, monuments and museums make it an interesting and beautiful place to visit.
It has good transport communication links, with a regular bus service from Kotel to Shoumen, Sliven, Yambol, Veliki Preslav, Targovishte and other villages and towns in the surrounding area. The bus station is situated in the southern part of the town.
