Currently there are three golf courses in Bulgaria: one at Elin Pelin,which is near the capital city of Sofia; and two owned by Air Sofia. The oldest one opened in the year 2000 at Ihtiman which is 40 km from Sofia and the other opened in 2004 at Silven which is 90 km from the Black Sea.
Because of increased foreign interest in Bulgaria, several more courses are scheduled to open. The first is in an area about 90 km from the Black Sea in the north-east at Razgrad, the second two are at Kavarna and a further one at Primorsko, near Sozalfo. There will be golf courses in the ski resorts of Bansko, and between Kostenets and Borovets.
