| Chepelare is a beautiful town situated by the Chepelarska River and has a population of approximately 6100. With 1.100 metres above sea level, Chepelare is the highest town in Bulgaria, which makes it a popular ski resort. The city of Sofia is about 220 km to the north west of the town and the Pamporovo Resort can be found within 10 km. Beautifully nestled in a valley of the Rodoppi Mountain, Chepelare is boasting of the longest ski run in the country. It is 5.2 kilometres long and offers ski fans magnificent views of the countryside. A total of 11.400 metres of ski slopes are provided and divided into three main tracks and some smaller ones. To get to the top of the mountain (Mechi Chal), you will be able to take the chairlift which has a capacity of 700 people and is 2471 metres long. A trip takes about 17 minutes. Additional to the chairlift there are also towrope and drag lifts available. Beginners and children will appreciate the smaller beginner slope that can be found close to the centre of the town. A biathlon track, parallel slalom, a cross country track, winter carnivals, numerous competitions and much more is on offer and will keep everyone entertained.
