There are two universities located in Blagoevgrad. One of them is the South-West University "Neofit Rilski" which has been established as a branch of the "St Kliment Ohridski" University in Sofia. Over 40 majors are available and therefore it is the largest and most authoritative scientific-educational and social-cultural institution in Southeast Europe. Also provided by the university are a Faculty of Pedagogy, an Economical Faculty, a Faculty of Law and History, a Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, a Philosophy Faculty, a Philological Faculty, a Faculty of Fine Arts and a Technical College.The other one located in the town is the American University, in which 27 different nationalities come together to study. Students have the choice between the following majors: Arts, Languages and Literature; Business; Computer Science; Economics; Journalism and Mass Communication; European Studies, History and Political Science; and Mathematics and Science.
