| Bansko and the ski resort that belongs to it are situated in the south west of Bulgaria. The town itself can be found at the foothills of the mountains Pirin, Rhodopi and Rila at 925 metres above sea level and the ski resort is stretching from 1.100 metres up to 2.500 metres above sea level. Thousands of winter sports fans are coming to Bansko every season. 2ºC is the average temperature during January - the coldest month in the year. This, the up to 2 metre thick snow cover and the fact that the season is lasting from December until April make Bansko one of the most popular ski resorts in Bulgaria. Like most other ski resorts in Bulgaria, Bansko also provides a wide range of facilities and services. Chalin Valog is one of the three regions within the resort. The second one is Shiligarnika and the third is Banderishka Polyana. The first two both provide beginner slopes and are the major regions in Bansko. Due to the fact that the Bansko ski resort is the newest one in the country, it is still an insider tip and not as crowded as other ski resorts in Bulgaria.
