The different architecture and styles of the Romans, medieval Bulgaria, Turkish, post Liberation and new Vidin have formed a beautiful and fascinating town. The picturesque Riverbank Park which is situated on the banks of the Danube has a mixture of different styles which have been preserved over the centuries. The combination of a traditional English park layout and Baroque vegetation give the park a unique and typically Bulgarian look.
The historic town of Vidin has many attractions with the tenth century Baba Vida Fortress which played an important role in the town's defences during the Medieval period and which has been completely preserved. The The Katelo fortress was first built by the Romans, was reconstrcuted during the Middle Ages, and has been partially preserved. Other architectural, cultural and historic monuments include the Cross-Shaped Barracks; Turkish post office; art gallery; synagogue; Drama Theatre; St. Dimitar Cathedral; the St. Panteleymon, St. Nikolai and St. Petka churches and the Mausoleum of Antim I.
The large River Danube forms a border between Bulgaria and Romania and runs through Vidin. Here you can swim, sunbathe, fish and try out a wide variety of water sports. Or you can catch a boat from the river station for an excursion along the river.
