Tsarevo is an international port for medium sized passenger and cargo ships. It has about 6,000 inhabitants and is situated 72 km south of the city of Bourgas on the border between the Strandzha Mountain and the sea. It spreads over two small peninsulas with a beautiful inlet, and the 502 metre peak of Papiya with its ruined fortress overlooking the town. Arapya is a large campsite along the coast with three beaches separated by rocks, and is a favourite place for wind surfers
The area has good transport communications links with a regular bus service connecting Tsarevo to Bourgas, Sozopol, Primosko and Kiten to the north and Ahtopol to the south.
It is worth spending a day away from the beach exploring the Stradzha Mountain which was declared a natural park in 1995. It is one of the least explored in Bulgaria and has a large variety of wildlife and many caves with traces of ancient civilisations including stone figures, sun discs, Thracian dolmens and fortress walls.
There are many restaurants to choose from in Tsarevo but the most famous are the Yalta Restaurant and Passat Snack Bar. Food is cheap here and you can purchase fresh produce and fish from stalls, the market or the port.
