Shoumen is a city located in the north east of Bulgaria. There are two universities available here, one of which is the Higher Education Military School of Artillery and Air-Defence "Panaiot Volov". The university was established in 1948 but it was not until 1951 that it has been relocated to the city of Shoumen. There is a wide range of facilities available at the Panaiot Volov Higher Education Military School of Artillery and Air-Defence, including study rooms, labs, computer complexes, training appliances, firing grounds, a gym, a swimming pool, cinema halls, repetition halls, a conference hall and many others. The other university is the Shoumen University "Konstantin Preslavski", which also has a long history and has an excellent reputation. At the collage in Dobrich (which is part of the Shoumen University), students can obtain the degree "Specialist", but the BA degree training and the "Master" degree programmes are only available in Shoumen itself. The university's "Centre for Bulgarian Language Teaching to Foreigners" is offered to international students and a large selection of faculties and majors are available to all of them. Numerous majors in the faculties of Humanities; Social, Economic and Law Studies; Natural, Mathematical and Computer Science; Technical Science; Agrarian Science and Veterinary Medicine and Education Science. For those students who have to move to the city of Shoumen, there are student hostels (approximately 1000 beds) available, as well as two canteens and leisure facilities.
