The City of Rousse is located on the right bank of the Danube river and is known as "Little Vienna" because of its ancient architecture. It is a historical town where you can visit fascinating museums, architectural and historical monuments and churches which all form a wonderful picture of Bulgarian cultural heritage.
The natural park of Roussenski Lom is divided into four zones with the tourist area covering the villages of Pisanetz, Nisovo, Cherven, Svalenik, Ivanovo, Koshovo, and Shtraklevo. Here there are walking trails to follow, horse riding and mountain bikes.
The historical zone includes the unique Ivanovo rock monasteries and the archaeological reserve of the medieval town of Cherven. The only active rock monastery in Bulgaria (St Dimitar Basarbovski) is in this region, near the village of Basarbovo.
The Prista Park and Lipnik Forest on the outskirts of Rousse offer tranquil and relaxing areas for you to unwind and be close to nature. Or you can visit the fascinating cave of Orlova Chuka to view amazing sights underground.
