Like the nearby town of Karlovo, Kalofer is close to the cities of Plovdiv (approx. 65 km) and Gabrovo (approx. 90 km). In Gabrovo there is the Technical University and in Plovdiv you can find the Agricultural University, the Higher Institute of Food and Flavour Industries, the Higher Medical Institute, the University of Plovdiv "Paisii Hilendarski" and the Academy of Music and Dance Art.
